Technical Marketing Strategist
What we're building
Our vision is to make it easy and accessible to manufacture a product. We're starting with a desktop Pick and Place machine, used to assemble electronic components onto circuit boards.
Existing Pick and Place machines are expensive and can require high-pressure air and three phase power. Some only accept job files on a floppy disk. Traditionally, Pick and Place machines have only been used by large companies with factory space, so that's how they're designed.
But they don't need to be this way. Our machines facilitate mid-scale manufacturing, where you make your product at a moderate scale before making the risky and expensive jump to a factory contract. With our hardware, anyone can do a production run of their product in-house.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone that is excited by our vision, has experience selling hardware, and is ready to wear a lot of hats. We're a small team growing quickly. There will be constant opportunity to take on new responsibilities and have serious impact on the direction of the company.
You will be responsible for helping shape the Marketing program at Opulo. This includes optimizing social media and search ads, research our target market, updating ad creative and copy, and discover new verticals. You will help businesses discover desktop PCBA assembly, and how it can make them more efficient. You will work closely with leadership to understand what our customers are looking for, and figure out how best to reach them. If you are excited at the idea of wearing many hats and enjoy taking ownership, we want you at Opulo as our Technical Marketing Strategist.
This role is Hybrid, requiring that you come into our Pittsburgh office regularly. We believe that exposure to the hardware is critical to fully understanding it, and knowing how it works best for our customers.
Core Responsibilities
- Look into different industries that could take advantage of medium scale PCBA assembly, and figure out how best to reach them
- Attend trade shows and interact with customers in person
- Take existing target market research and further our understanding based on customer (and prospective customer) interviews
- Identify specific verticals where this technology can be useful
- Optimize advertising campaigns with Google Adwords, Google Analytics, Meta Advertising, etc.
- Invent and implement weird, creative, and strange methods of reaching out to folks and sharing the usefulness of mid-scale manufacturing
- Handle marketing campaigns for prospective customers
Basic Qualifications
- Have familiarity with running digital marketing campaigns
- Can communicate technical information clearly and concisely
- 2-3 years experience selling a product or service
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Comfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace
- Have experience identifying target markets, based on customer research
- Are self-directed, driven, and able to own and complete projects independently
- Are comfortable leveraging data to make informed strategic decisions
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with PCBAs and related manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with CNC machines of any kind (3D printer, laser cutter, etc.)
- Education or work experience in engineering and design
- Experience with event management and promotion
